The Import Wizard handles import of variable annotations "to the left" of the numerical data. If you have variable annotations also "to the right" of the data matrix the recommended solution is to import the data in two steps.
1. Use the Import Wizard and import data, sample annotations and the variable annotations "to the left" of your data.
2. Select File | Import | variable annotations. Select the data file again. Do uncheck all to make sure not to import all you data as variable annotations. Then select the annotations that you would like to import. You find them at the end of the list.
